There are events in our lives where we will forever remember where we were when we heard the news – the Kennedy Assassination (Mrs. Lemnah’s 4th grade classroom at Summit Street School) and 9/11 are the two seminal events of my lifetime.
I first heard about the plane hitting the WTC in my car on the way to the dentist. I called the wife and told her to turn on the news.
Upon my arrival at the dentist’s office, we watched the news and witnessed the second aircraft hit.
Life still goes on – I was in the dentist’s chair having a root canal done while watching CNN on the TV that the dentist has in each cubicle. We saw the first tower collapse, but by the time the second collapsed, we were done with my dental surgery.
102 minutes that changed the world – those 102 minutes, including the plane that hit the Pentagon and the plane went down in Schenksville PA, completely galvanized the American public to the danger of radical fanaticism. Note, I do not single out Islamic fanatics in this statement, although they were certainly at the core of this galvanization. Still, the public suddenly realized how dangerous fanatics could be.
It is ironic that it took this event to bring the issue to a head – how easily one forgets that we suffered through the 1993 WTC and the 1995 Oklahoma City bombings, both the work of fanatics as well.
Today, we continue to be engaged in a war against these fanatics, yet public support for this war seems to be eroding. How easily this erosion occurs, despite the London bombings, the Madrid bombings and innumerable terrorist attacks against American interests and their allies.
It is difficult to argue that the war against terror has been executed in an efficient manner. Liberals want to place such restrictions on military actions as to emasculate these effects of military actions.
IMO, it is time to react in kind – if terrorists want to continue this war, then let us truly bring the full force and fury of the US military might should be brought to bear, particularly in the mountainous areas of Pakistan. I even support the use of tactical nuclear weapons to attack those areas of Pakistan that harbor Al Qaeda camps and terrorists. You want to get Osama Bin Laden? Tactical nukes can accomplish this task.
As for the sovreignty of Pakistan, Pakistan be damned. They are doing very little to prevent the Taliban and Al Qaeda from operating withing their borders and, worse, may well be complicant in the Bombay attacks. Pakistan is doing nothing to stabilize the region – it can even be argued that it is destabilizing the region with its lack of action.
No doubt such action would be met with condemnation from much of the world, but its time that the US stand up to the rest of the world and tell them to stuff it – if the US is going to be the target for these attacks, then the US has the right to defend itself. If the remainder of the world sits by and allows these governments to support terrorists, then let these governments suffer the might of the US rath.
The Province of Quebec has a slogan on their license plates – Je me souviens – I remember. Very appropriate in this situation.
Go Army
Go Navy
Go Marines
Go Air Force
Go Coast Guard
Go Department of Homeland Security
Go Department of US Customs and Border Patrol
Go get them – win this one for the 3000 innocent victims of the cowards who struck the first blow eight years ago.
Liberals, get out of the way – your desire to protect the civil rights of a group that has no concept whatsoever about civil rights is nauseating, to say the least. They deserve no better than the terror they sow – let them rot in hell, as far as I am concerned.
Most important, support our troops. They put their lives on the line each and every day and, regardless of your political persuasion, deserve to know that every man, woman and child in this country supports their efforts.
